FROSTBYTE by N.S. Chaudhury"This book has one of the most unique world building I read in a long time ... and a plot that hold lots of surprises." (JC Spark)
N.S. Chaudhury: "I’ve always been drawn to science fiction and fantasy for their vibrant and creative worlds and expansive lore. To this day, movies like, Treasure Planet, Atlantis: Lost Empire & Spirited Away, remain my absolute favorites not just for the storytelling and characters but the worldbuilding. I think it’s one of my absolute favorite aspects in any story and I’ve tried to encapsulate in my sci-fi debut, FrostByte.

FrostByte falls primarily under the cyberpunk genre but I’ve been marketing it as a Desi Cyberpunk book. Mostly because unlike the typical cyberpunk settings that are usually taking place in neo-tokyoesque futuristic versions of Western cities, FrostByte is set very firmly in a South Asian landscape. It’s an indeterminate amount of time in the future so the world as we know it today geographically doesn’t quite exist anymore but the culture and the people are very visibly Brown and South Asian.

I’m not going to lie, though, blending the two widely different aesthetics together did pose as major challenge. Cyberpunk is often very isolationist in that the culture is often very ‘every man for themselves’ kind of vibes while South Asians are very family oriented and big on a sense of community. So, blending the two together while staying true to both in essence was an interesting experience but I’m very happy with the end result and I hope that it’ll come through when the readers will pick up the book.

If you want to read a book about an illegally resurrected murder victim—stuck in a riches to rags situation—trying to figure out the mystery surrounding her death, a seemingly altruistic shop owner—moonlighting as a hacker—who takes her in and his sassy, cat AI, you’re going to love FrostByte.

This book—which is the first in a planned trilogy—deals with themes of identity, trust and mental health struggles and features dual, 3rd person POVs, with Found Family, Unreliable Narrators, Brown/Muslim Rep, an Ace MC and the slowest of Slow Burn(s).  FrostByte is perfect for fans of The Animatrix + Matrix for the virtual world shenanigans and Altered Carbon with all the murder mystery plus great food. P.S. Reading this book WILL make you hungry."
